The visuals projected on the mylar are cut from every scene in Jaws where all 3 main characters Quint, Brody, and Hooper are on the boat Orca trying to catch and kill the shark. The footage is chronological; it is cut as the men look to one another, resulting in a continuously shifting gaze of men to men. This looking is sometimes bored, sometimes anxious, but often aggressive. In this redux of Jaws the characters are mute, forced instead to look and listen continuously.
The audio is taken from La Rouge Balloon. The clip comes from the "chase" scene at the end of the film. This is the only scene of the film where there is no score. The audio we hear is the sound of boys running on the cobblestone streets of a Montmartre. This mob of adolescents chase the main character until they catch and "kill" his red balloon. The clip ends with the sound of the balloon pop.
All of this is lopped endlessly, projected, and reflected into a the small viewing room. In this chapel-like space the viewer's physical presence alters the reflected protection like sun on water.
